Let's take a look at some features and why they may be important to the user.  Screen size starts around 2.5 inches and go up.  A 2.5 inch screen is probably too small for most and likely to be enjoyed by young children.  Some of the models with the very small screen only play mini DVDs so if you're interested in one of these small screen units, make sure you know what type of DVDs it will play.  Think about if a typical display is suitable or if you want a widescreen display. Where and when you plan to watch DVDs is also important when choosing a compact DVD player.  If you plan to watch much away from a power source, then take a look at the battery life of the unit.  Some are a couple hours and others, like some Sony models, have a battery life of around 7 hours with their mobile DVD players.  Do you only need an AC adapter to recharge or do you also need a car adapter to charge and watch movies while traveling? If you plan to watch videos that you burn with your PC, then look for a model that will read DVD+R and/or DVD-R.  If you want to listen to MP3 music files you burned on a CD, get a model that also will read MP3 files and CD-R and/or CD-RW discs.
