Delta Tools - Delta Power Tools - What Dad doesn't like tools?  Ok, there are some who don't like tools but we'll concentrate on those who do, right now.  If you Dad is the kind of person who is always cutting himself, smashing his extremities all the time or tends to cut the wrong things off, you may want to stay clear of this page and get him something like a car starter or DVD player.  Maybe if you get him some Delta tools, throw in some bandages and a first aid book just for good measure.

Let's take a look at some Delta power tools and see if you think your Dad may just want one. Delta has been around since 1919 when they introduced the first scroll saw.  They have a long lasting reputation by offering high quality Delta tools that are built tough and last.

Delta Cordless DrillsCordless Drills - The are great gift ideas for most Dads since they have so many uses around the home and shop.  A good cordless drill has an advantage over corded drills since you don't have worry about plugging it in and carrying around the extension cord just to use it.  Most corded drills have a very short cord so an extension cord is a must.  Most cordless drills are from 9.6 volts to 18 volts, depending on the manufacturer and its use.  Here's some features to consider when selecting a cordless drill.  Think about if the feature is important and, if so, make a list of features you want.  This will make it easeir to choose the right drill.

Extra batteries and charger - Shop carefully and make sure the drill you select comes with a charger.  If you're buying a replacement, it may be a big deal if the replacement is exactly what you're replacing since not all chargers will work with all drills.  Some units do NOT come with a charger so pay attention to this.

Keyless Chuck - As a cordless drill user I can tell you this is very handy and a desirable feature.  This lets you change bits without having to use a key.  This also makes changing bits faster so most Dads will like this feature.

Torque Settings - Another important feature. This lets you select the amount of torque the drill will use.  This means you select how hard the drill will drill or turn something, like a screwdriver bit.  Too much torque and you can break things using a screwdriver bit.  Not enough torque and you may not be able to complet that drilling project.  To be a good multi-purpose drill, look for this feature.

Variable Speed - Also important. There's a couple ways to go here, multiple speed and truly variable speed.  Multiple speed is selecting from a number of different speeds, like 200 RPM or 1000 RPM and so on.  A "better" variable speed is  one where the speed increases as you squeeze harder on the trigger.  This is better as it lets you control the speed better, like starting out at a fast speed and decreasing as you finish drilling.  Regardless of the type of speed, make sure the drill is reversable.

Belt Clip - This is a useful feature but not a high priority one.  This is more useful if Dad works in construction or does a lot of home projects.  Most Dads won't likely use this much.

Bit Storage - Some cordless drill models have a built in bit storage feature.  This is handy since you can carry a number or bits around with you instead of putting them in your pocket or carrying a tool box around.

Carrying Case / Kit - This is important to think about as well.  If this is a gift, a carrying case and/or a kit is a good idea.  Many kits come with drill bits, screwdriver bits, lights that use the same battery as the drill or extra batteries.

Delta Power ToolsMiter Saws - If the Dad in your life is into all kiinds of wood working home improvements, a good miter saw would be a nice gift and Delta Tools has a good selection to choose from.  If he only occasionally does any woodworking, this type of saw probably isn't that useful to him.  This isn't the kind of saw you use to cut a 2x4 every once in a while, it's the kind of saw you setup for a good amount of sawing or if you have a dedicated space like the garage or basement where he can leave it setup.  So what are some features you should look for?  Let's take a look, write down the features you think he'll need and click a link below to do some shopping.

See-thru blade guard - Blade guards a must for obvious reasons but at time they can get in the way, like when you're trying to see just where your blade is cutting.  This is important when making fine cuts like cabinets, furniture or trim.  A blade guard you can see through is important and is a hot feature in miter saws, make sure the one you buy has this.

Twin lasers - This is not an absolute but a very nice feature.  The twin laser lights show just where both sides of the cut will be.  When making fine cuts, like for cabinets or furniture, it's important that your cut be precise.  The width of the blade can make a difference between a good cut and one that's too long or too short.  With twin lasers, you can see just what will be cut before the blade touches the wood.

Miter stops or miter detents - This is a nice feature to have as well.  This means the user can easily and quickly make miter cuts, cuts that are at an angle used for joints and trim.  The miter stop lets the user adjust the saw angle and snaps or stops at the most popular angles like 45 or 90 degrees.  The miter saw should also allow precise control over the angle so the user can cut more than standard angles.

Dust bag - Not a must-have feature but is a nice one too.  This will collect dust from the cuts and helps to cut down on the amount of sawdust that gets airborne.  After a while, this can quickly coat just about everything in the area.  A good feature for those who plan to use this indoors or in a garage.

Engine brake - Nice to have when you need to make multiple cuts in a row.  Without a brake you spend extra time waiting for the blade to stop spinning before you ready your next cut.

Spindle lock - This helps when changing blades as it will lock the spindle, which is what the blade is attached to, and makes it easier to remove the bolt to replace the blade.  Those who uses this type of saw often likely change blades often, either for a sharper blade or because of the kind of material they plan to cut.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of available features but is merely a guide for those looking to buy a miter saw for Dad.  Think about how he may use the saw, write down some important features and take a look at what's available.  Tool King has a very nice selection of miter saws and other Delta tools as well.  They were rated a top e-commerce site by Internet Retailer and have been selling tools since 1978, so you can feel confident about your Delta tools purchase.  Click here to go to Tool King
